June 8, 2021. Annapolis, MD. Our brothers and sisters at Zambia Rush have reached out to us again this year expressing their gratitude for our prior donations and asking if we again can support them.  In our last major R.E.A.C.H. (“Rush Equipment Assisting Children”) collection we shipped 980 donated soccer items to Zambia for Zambia Rush to distribute to its 1500+ players.

During every collection we have had very generous members offer to make monetary donations. We cannot send money to Zambia due to widespread corruption – no money would make it to the kids.  However, we will gladly accept monetary donations to purchase soccer items we can sent to them.  You will find a list of those items below.

Any used soccer gear you can donate would be greatly appreciated, but there are quite a few additional items and tasks that would be very helpful.  The types of gear needed are as follows (not in any particular order):

  1. Rush uniforms, including socks;
  2. Soccer balls (size 4 or 5) – they need roughly 100 balls again so this is a big ask that we fulfilled last time around;
  3. Soccer cleats (all sizes);
  4. Shin guards;
  5. Professional team jerseys (you can see boys in the attached picture wearing professional jerseys donated in prior years).

They also have asked for a few things that we would love to be able to purchase and ship to them if we have members willing to make monetary donations for the purchases:

  1. Nets;
  2. Pinnies/bibs;
  3. Pugg goals (these are the little goals we use for practices; in one of the attached photos you can see their players using water bottle as a goal); and
  4. Rush T-shirts (last time we sent 250 “Zambia Rush” T-shirts and they were very popular).

Finally, if anyone would like to volunteer to help with our R.E.A.C.H. Program assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Part of the work is collecting equipment, but the Zambia Rush Technical Director (Kebby) has asked to discuss ways to enhance our partnership as sister clubs by finding cultural sporting programs that would make our respective communities learn and share knowledge.  We have a great opportunity to help our kids learn about life in a very different part of the world, so having someone that could take some time to communicate with Kebby and brainstorm about the subject would be very helpful.

If you would like to volunteer, have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Tim Dewitt at [email protected]
